Texas Medicaid Dental — Who We See

Mi Smile Family Dental is a Medicaid dental provider in North Houston. We see adults and children enrolled in Texas Medicaid (STAR program), children enrolled in CHIP, and patients with Medicare Advantage dental plans. We do not turn patients away based on insurance type. Whether you have Medicaid, a PPO plan, or no insurance at all, we treat you with the same quality of care and the same respect.

Frequently Asked Questions

We accept Texas STAR Medicaid for adults and children. We also accept CHIP dental coverage for children. Medicaid in Texas is delivered through managed care organizations (MCOs) — DentaQuest, MCNA Dental, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan are common. Call 832-779-5522 and we verify your specific MCO plan is accepted before you schedule.
For most Texas Medicaid plans, there is no copay for children's dental services. Adult Medicaid copays, if any, are very small and set by the MCO. CHIP families may have small copays for some services. We confirm what if anything you owe before your appointment.
Yes. We welcome children at their first dental visit — recommended at age 1. Texas Medicaid's First Dental Home program covers this first visit including exam, cleaning, and fluoride. Call 832-779-5522 and we confirm your child's Medicaid plan coverage before scheduling. There are no judgment or barriers for families who have delayed dental care.
Texas Medicaid for adults covers simple extractions when the tooth is symptomatic or infected and the extraction is deemed medically necessary. Medicaid generally does not cover elective extractions or tooth replacement with implants. If you need a crown or bridge for a tooth that Medicaid does not cover, we can discuss financing options.
Yes. Call 832-779-5522 and provide your Medicaid ID and date of birth. We contact your MCO's provider line to confirm your eligibility and plan status before your appointment. You can also check your eligibility at YourTexasBenefits.com or by calling 2-1-1.
For services not covered by Medicaid — such as crowns, implant restorations, or cosmetic work — we offer CareCredit and Sunbit financing — both subject to lender credit approval. Both are subject to lender credit approval. We explain all terms clearly before you apply. See our payment plans page for sourced details.
