Dentist Accepting Delta Dental Insurance in North Houston

Mi Smile Family Dental accepts Delta Dental. In Texas, Delta Dental Insurance Company provides a Dental Provider Organization (DPO) plan¹ — and within that, Delta offers multiple network tiers (PPO, Premier, PPO Plus Premier) plus the DeltaCare USA dental HMO. Which one you have significantly affects what you pay. We verify your specific plan before your visit.

Understanding Your Delta Dental Plan

Delta Dental has a tiered network structure that trips up many patients. Here's the plain-English version:²

Delta Dental PPO

The preferred-provider tier. PPO network dentists have contracted fees — you typically pay the lowest out-of-pocket here. Coinsurance is applied to the negotiated (lower) fee schedule.

Delta Dental Premier

Delta's larger, older network with contracted fees that are typically higher than PPO. Premier dentists have agreed to caps, so you generally pay less than going fully out-of-network — but more than with a PPO dentist.²

Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier

A combined plan design. If your PPO dentist isn't available, a Premier dentist still gets reimbursed at that dentist's contracted fee — you get the benefit of both networks.²

DeltaCare USA (Dental HMO)

Delta's dental HMO product. Lower cost, focus on preventive care, requires choosing a primary dentist. No annual maximum, set copays per service, referrals needed for specialists.²

Texas-specific note: Delta Dental Insurance Company provides a Dental Provider Organization (DPO) plan in Texas.¹ Also, the State of Texas Dental Choice Plan (for Texas state employees via ERS) is administered by Delta Dental.³ If you see "DPO" on your card, that's not a typo — it's Delta's Texas product designation. We verify your specific plan type before your visit.

New for 2026: SmileWay Enhanced Benefits

Effective January 1, 2026, Delta Dental added SmileWay Wellness Benefits (known as SmileWay Enhanced Benefits in Texas) to many plans.⁴ The program offers expanded dental coverage at no additional cost for members who have been diagnosed with chronic conditions affecting oral health. Covered conditions include:

ALS · Cancer · Chronic kidney disease · Diabetes · Heart disease · HIV/AIDS · Huntington's disease · Joint replacement · Lupus · Opioid misuse and addiction · Parkinson's disease · Rheumatoid arthritis · Sjögren's syndrome · Stroke⁴

If you have one of these diagnoses, tell us — we can help you confirm whether your Delta Dental plan includes SmileWay and what additional benefits may apply. Note: SmileWay benefits are subject to applicable maximums, deductibles, and processing rules.⁴

What Delta Dental PPO Plans Typically Cover

Coverage varies significantly by plan tier and employer. These figures reflect common structures:²⁵

Coverage ElementTypical Delta Dental PPO Range²⁵
Preventive (exams, cleanings, X-rays)100% at PPO network; no waiting period on most plans
Basic (fillings, simple extractions)80% at PPO network after deductible
Major (crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals)50% at PPO network after deductible
Annual deductible$50/person, $150/family typical
Annual maximum benefit$1,000–$2,000 individual plans; some employer plans higher (e.g., Stanford 2026 plan: $3,000 in-network)⁵
Orthodontia (when included)Typically separate $2,000 lifetime maximum per person⁵
Non-PPO / out-of-networkMay pay less; non-Delta dentists can balance-bill the difference²

Figures reflect typical Delta Dental individual and employer-sponsored PPO plans.²⁵ Your specific plan may differ significantly — we verify before your visit.

How We Verify Your Delta Dental Benefits

1

You give us your card details

Member ID, group number, and the specific product name printed on your card (e.g., "Delta Dental PPO," "Delta Dental Premier," "PPO Plus Premier," "DeltaCare USA," or "State of Texas Dental Choice Plan").

2

We call Delta Dental's provider services line

Our team verifies effective date, annual maximum, deductible status, waiting periods (if any), orthodontia benefits, and SmileWay eligibility if applicable. We also confirm in-network status for Mi Smile Family Dental on your specific Delta product.

3

We explain the breakdown honestly

For major work ($300+), Delta recommends a predetermination of benefits² — we submit it before treatment so you know Delta's projected payment. You'll see what's covered at 100%, 80%, 50%, plus your expected out-of-pocket per service.

4

If financing helps, we explain it plainly

CareCredit and Sunbit are options for the portion Delta doesn't cover. Approval is determined by the lender — not by Mi Smile.

Your Delta Dental Plan & Common Care Needs

Dental emergency

Delta Dental plans typically cover emergency exams and X-rays at the preventive rate. Follow-up treatment falls under basic or major tiers. DeltaCare USA members can access emergency care without referral. See our emergency hub.

Cleanings & preventive

Typically two cleanings per year covered at 100% at PPO network with no waiting period.² Sealants and fluoride often covered for children. See preventive care.

Gum disease treatment

Scaling and root planing typically falls under basic services at 80% after deductible on PPO plans. Periodontal maintenance cleanings often covered at preventive rates. SmileWay Enhanced Benefits may expand coverage for diabetic patients.⁴ Gum treatment details.

Crowns & major work

Crowns, bridges, root canals typically at 50% after deductible and subject to annual max. Delta recommends predetermination for services over $300.² See restorative care. We restore implants placed elsewhere; we don't place implants.

Cosmetic work

Delta Dental notes cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening are generally not covered by any Delta plan type.² For cosmetic dentistry, CareCredit or Sunbit are common choices.

Orthodontics

Many Delta plans include orthodontic benefit with a separate lifetime maximum — commonly $2,000 per person.⁵ Mi Smile Family Dental does not provide orthodontics — our sister practice mismileortho.dental handles that.

Make the Most of Your Delta Benefits Before Year-End

Most Delta Dental plans reset January 1, and unused annual maximums typically don't roll over. If you have remaining annual max and postponed work, scheduling before December 31 can use benefits that would otherwise be lost. For phased major work, sometimes splitting treatment across the year-end boundary lets you apply two years' worth of benefits. See our year-end benefits guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

General information only. When in doubt about the severity of your situation, err on the side of caution and call us or go to the ER.

Yes — we accept Delta Dental and verify your specific product before your visit. Delta has multiple networks (PPO, Premier, PPO Plus Premier, DeltaCare USA), and in-network status can differ among them. Call 832-779-5522 with your card and we'll verify which network tier your plan uses and what our network status is on your specific plan.
In Texas, Delta Dental Insurance Company provides a Dental Provider Organization (DPO) plan.¹ It functions similarly to a PPO for most coverage purposes. If 'DPO' appears on your card, that's Delta's Texas-specific product naming — we verify the coverage details and network participation before your visit.
Delta Dental PPO is the preferred tier — PPO dentists agree to the lowest negotiated fees. Delta Dental Premier is a larger, older network with higher (but still contracted) fees.² If your plan is PPO-only, seeing a Premier dentist means higher out-of-pocket. If your plan is PPO Plus Premier, you get network benefits at either tier. The card often indicates your tier; we verify specifically.
SmileWay Wellness Benefits (known as SmileWay Enhanced Benefits in Texas) were added to many Delta plans effective January 1, 2026.⁴ They provide expanded coverage at no additional cost for members with chronic conditions affecting oral health — diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and others. Benefits are subject to applicable maximums and processing rules. If you have a qualifying diagnosis, tell us and we'll help verify what applies.
Most individual Delta Dental PPO plans cover preventive from day one with no waiting period.² Basic and major services may have waiting periods depending on the specific product and whether it's individual or employer-sponsored. Employer plans often waive waiting periods. We verify this for you before your visit.
For treatment over $300 or any crowns/bridges, Delta Dental recommends a predetermination — they review the planned treatment and respond with estimated coverage before you start.² We submit these routinely on request so you know your expected out-of-pocket before treatment begins. Predetermination isn't a guarantee of final payment but is usually very close.
Yes. We process your Delta claim first; whatever your plan doesn't cover becomes the patient portion. That patient portion can be financed through CareCredit (promotional financing with specific terms, subject to credit check) or Sunbit (fixed installment loan, soft credit check, subject to lender approval). Full details on our payment plans page.
