Getting a crown or bridge on your implant feels like another big expense after you already paid for the implant surgery. Many patients worry the restoration won't match their other teeth or that something will go wrong after spending so much money.

Dr. Maddipati shows you exactly what your implant restoration will cost before we start and explains what your insurance covers for the crown or bridge portion. She takes impressions carefully and checks the fit multiple times to make sure your new tooth matches your bite and looks natural.

Implant restoration places a crown, bridge, or denture on top of a dental implant — a titanium post surgically placed in the jawbone to act as an artificial root.

Benefits of Implant Restoration

  • Designed to restore function and appearance — outcomes vary by individual
  • Fixed restoration — care and longevity discussed at consultation
  • Preserves jawbone and prevents bone loss
  • Does not require modifying adjacent healthy teeth
  • Can are a long-lasting tooth replacement solution with proper care

The Process

Once the implant post has fully integrated with the jawbone (osseointegration), we place an abutment and then fit a custom crown to complete the restoration.

Restoration vs. Implant Placement — Understanding the Two Phases

Phase 1 — Implant Placement (surgical): The titanium post is surgically inserted into the jawbone by an oral surgeon or periodontist. Mi Smile Family Dental does not perform the surgical placement step. We work with your chosen oral surgeon and coordinate the restorative phase once integration is complete.

Phase 2 — Implant Restoration (what Dr. Maddipati does): Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone — a process called osseointegration, which takes several months — Dr. Maddipati designs, fabricates, and places the visible tooth (crown, bridge, or denture) on top of the implant. This is the step that completes your smile.

Types of Implant Restorations

Implant Crown

Replaces a single missing tooth. Fabricated in porcelain matched to your natural tooth shade. Fixed permanently to the implant — it looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.

Implant-Supported Bridge

Replaces two or more consecutive missing teeth using two or more implants as anchors. No need to alter the adjacent healthy teeth — a significant advantage over traditional bridges.

Implant-Supported Denture

A full or partial denture anchored by implants for far greater stability than a conventional removable denture. Significantly reduces movement and improves comfort during eating and speaking.

What to Expect After Your Restoration

The placement of the restoration on the implant is typically a comfortable procedure that does not require anesthesia in most cases. You may feel some pressure during fitting adjustments, but there is no drilling or cutting involved at this stage. Dr. Maddipati verifies the bite and fit carefully before completing the appointment, and provides detailed care instructions before you leave.

With proper care — daily brushing and flossing, and routine check-ups — implant restorations can last 15 years or longer. Implant success rates exceed 95% at 5 years when placed in healthy bone. (ADA, 2024)
