You know that crown is expensive, and you're wondering if you really need it now or if you can wait another year. Maybe you've heard horror stories about crowns falling off or not matching your other teeth.

Dr. Maddipati shows you the X-ray and explains exactly why the crown is needed — whether it's preventing the tooth from cracking further or if it's cosmetic work that can wait. She gives you the total cost upfront, including lab fees, so there are no surprises.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers and protects a damaged tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance.

When Is a Crown Needed?

  • To protect a weak tooth from breaking
  • To restore a broken or severely worn tooth
  • To cover a tooth with a large filling
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To cover a dental implant
  • To protect a tooth after a root canal

Crown Procedure

Typically two visits: the first to prepare the tooth and take impressions; the second to cement the permanent crown in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most crowns last 10-15 years with normal use. Dr. Maddipati will show you what can make them fail early — like grinding your teeth at night or chewing ice.
Medicaid covers crowns on back teeth when medically necessary. Front teeth are usually cosmetic and not covered. We verify your benefits before treatment and discuss payment plans through CareCredit if needed.
First visit: We numb the tooth, reshape it, and take impressions. You get a temporary crown. Second visit (2 weeks later): We remove the temporary and cement your permanent crown. Each appointment is about 60-90 minutes.
We usually schedule crown appointments within 1-2 weeks. If it's an emergency — like a broken tooth — Dr. Maddipati can often see you same day for a temporary crown to protect the tooth.
