You're wondering if bonding will look fake or if it's worth the cost for something that might chip or stain. Many patients worry about spending money on cosmetic work that won't last or won't look natural.

Dr. Maddipati shows you exactly what bonding can and cannot fix before starting, and discusses realistic expectations for bonding durability. She discusses your options before any work begins and helps you decide what is appropriate for your situation.

Cosmetic bonding is a versatile treatment option for certain cosmetic concerns. Using a tooth-colored composite resin, we repair and improve teeth in just one visit.

What Can Bonding Fix?

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discolored or stained teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that are too short or irregularly shaped
  • Exposed tooth roots from gum recession

Benefits

Bonding is one of the easiest and least expensive cosmetic procedures. It usually requires little to no enamel removal, duration varies per tooth and clinical situation, and typically needs no anesthesia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bonding typically lasts 3-7 years. It can chip if you bite hard foods or grind your teeth, and it may stain from coffee or smoking more than your natural teeth do.
Most insurance plans don't cover purely cosmetic bonding. If bonding repairs a chipped tooth from an accident, some PPO plans cover 50-80%. We accept CareCredit and Sunbit for payment plans.
Appointment duration varies depending on the number of teeth and clinical situation. Dr. Maddipati explains the process at your appointment.

The Bonding Process — Step by Step

Step 1 — Shade Selection

Dr. Maddipati matches a composite resin shade to your natural tooth color. In most bonding cases, no anesthesia is needed because no tooth structure is removed — just a light surface conditioning gel is applied.

Step 2 — Resin Application

The putty-like resin is applied in layers and hand-sculpted to the exact shape needed. Dr. Maddipati works with precision — the goal is a result that looks completely natural alongside your other teeth.

Step 3 — Curing & Polish

Each layer is hardened with a curing light in seconds. The bonded surface is then smoothed and polished until it matches the sheen of your surrounding teeth. Most single-tooth bonding takes 30–60 minutes.

How Long Does Bonding Last?

With good oral hygiene and routine check-ups, dental bonding typically lasts 5 to 10 years before a touch-up is needed. The composite resin is strong but slightly more susceptible to staining than porcelain — coffee, tea, and red wine can gradually affect the color over time.

To protect your bonding: use a soft-bristled toothbrush, avoid biting directly into very hard foods with bonded teeth, and mention your bonding at every cleaning so Dr. Maddipati can check it during your exam.

Bonding vs. Veneers — Which Is Right for You?

Bonding Is the Better Choice When:
  • The change needed is minor — a chip, a small gap, or a single stain
  • You want a same-visit result with no waiting
  • Budget is a primary consideration
  • You'd like a reversible option (bonding does not alter the tooth structure)
Veneers Are Worth Considering When:
  • You want to change the color, shape, and size of multiple front teeth at once
  • You want a more stain-resistant, longer-lasting result (10–15 years)
  • The cosmetic concern is more extensive than bonding can address

Dr. Maddipati will give you an honest recommendation based on your specific teeth — not based on which treatment costs more. Learn more about veneers →
